it all began with a dollhouse

When I was a little girl my parents built a dollhouse for me. My dad, Jack, was the builder and my mom, Susan, with her impeccable taste and discerning eye for interiors, decorated the dollhouse that reflected her love for antiques. Year after year I redesigned, reimagined and repurposed the dollhouse. I painted walls, rearranged furniture, added new décor pieces, switched rooms around and repurposed the living room drapes into pillows for the master bedroom. One year I painted the exterior of the dollhouse yellow with white trim and used wrapping paper to wallpaper the kitchen. Over the years the style of the dollhouse evolved and my passion for design translated into my bedroom, my dorm room and into my first house. Though I have moved on to larger spaces, the root of my love for design and function began in the dollhouse. The dollhouse gave me perspective on space and allowed me to visualize the best way to utilize a small nook, a large entryway or a back set of stairs. Whether in a tight space in an office waiting room or looking at houses on a walk with a friend, I am always looking for ways to make the space more functional, more appealing and aesthetically reflect the owner.
